Whether you need a backhoe to work on a project for months or just a single day renting a backhoe rental can still be a cheaper option than buying one then leave it on the corner after the project is done, buying a backhoe for one project can be a dead investment unless you have a construction company. Renting a backhoe is an easy step to do so that you can finish your work with a little money spent. You can browse through the yellow pages for some backhoe rental and ask the backhoe rental company for a quotation. Renting one can be a solution to that problem. But it does not always mean that you need actually to buy one just to achieve that one task. Float costs are generally half rate of the work rate.In an ordinary job, there will be times that you need a backhoe to help you accomplish your work. Some contractors you can pay 120-140$ for the excavator that size and get a second operator so dump truck that floated it there will work with the excavator.
A 120-200 class excavator is only 100$ hr w operator, dozer is about 60-70$ hour for something like an 850 with 6 way and rippers through a contractor. I didn't say it was 40$ per hour, what I meant was dollar for dollar the contractors here will do more work than even a moderately skilled operator. Can you rent a scraper anywhere? One of our local NRCS has a scraper they rent out that I like to use to clean out terraces. But if its finish work, they do work good for that. They will not hog much dirt, just not enough weight. When you say your rebuilding them, are you just cleaning out around risers or actually moving much dirt. But they aren't a big dozer by any means. It worked really slick for what I needed, they are super fast being a hydrostat and the way the they operate. I rented a D5K a couple years ago, pretty sure at the time I paid $1300 for a week. Equivalent size dozer around here is $125 an hr.
$40 an hr? Really? You simply cant own and operate a reliable machine that will do a timely job for $40 an hr. Slowzuki- Your contractors must be hard up for work or they arent very good operators.
Several years ago I rented a Fiat allis FD7, which is about a 20,000 lb dozer. Also when hiring you have to tell every little thing to do.
